HELP US FIND A NEW HOME

Since the late 2010s, tactileBOSCH, SHIFT and Umbrella have all been based in the Capitol Centre, Cardiff. As of January 2025, we have been served an eviction notice, meaning we are losing two primary studio spaces, as well as five other affiliate spaces. We’re retaining only one of our studio spaces, but we are expecting to receive notice on this space soon. When this happens, Carnedd will have nowhere else to go, resulting in the displacement of artists, artwork, and crucial capital equipment.

Live shows, exhibitions, residencies, workshops – each organisation provides much-needed space for creative communities to meet, connect, and thrive. They form a powerful cornerstone in the arts ecosystem in Wales, which contributes hugely to the artistic development and output of this nation.

SHIFT Cardiff CIC was formed in 2018 in a direct response to the lack of experimental sound provision in Wales. SHIFT, programmes, facilities & supports sound art practice, working with other non-profit groups to create and maintain shared collaborative spaces.

tactileBOSCH has been Wales’ leading performance art organisation for nearly 25 years. Founded in 2001 by Kim Fielding and Simon Mitchell, it has championed live work by both emerging and established artists, with a strong emphasis on international collaboration.

Umbrella is an artist-led initiative driven by queer creatives. Rooted in local community, it uplifts marginalised artists, provides accessible spaces for exploration, and platforms Welsh and Wales-based folk.

This fundraiser is a direct appeal to help safeguard and secure the future of the arts in Wales in a time of crisis in the cultural sector.

The funds raised here will primarily be going towards our first year of running costs in a new space, and will directly support the grassroots scene in Wales. Any amount, big or small, will be gratefully received and used to support our artist communities. A new space is currently being prospected, however, it is likely we will have to leave Cardiff if we cannot raise the required funds.

We are currently supported by Axis. Axis champions and supports contemporary visual arts in the UK. By providing artists with resources, opportunities, and platforms to support and showcase their work, we make contemporary art more accessible and engaging for all, fostering a vibrant and inclusive arts.
